Eight go extra (220) miles to see Wolves win
1:30pm Thursday 9th September 2010
FOR many Wolves fans who made the trip to Wembley the most physical effort they made was walking down Wembley Way.
But an intrepid group of eight decided to put themselves through a physical feat that could match that of the players on the day.
They set off on their bikes from Warrington a few hours before the team left for London on the Thursday before the final.
The group took in 105 miles of their journey on day one, with a further 100 miles on the Friday that took them to Watford leaving them 15 miles to complete on match day.
John Ruane, Ste Coulton, Dave Wallis, Phil Allman, Paul Spencer, Bruce Gillibrand, Lee Westwood, Rob Foden and the driver Danny Wright have up to now raised more than £1,000 for the Wolves charitable Foundation, which will help the charity to continue its fantastic work within the community.
Lee Westwood, from the Wolves Foundation, said: “It was an extremely tough challenge and not something I would like to repeat in a hurry, but we are very proud of ourselves and really pleased to have raised money for the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation which work so hard in our local communities. It was also a fantastic result at Wembley so a big congratulations to the team.”
The Wolves Foundation would like to say a huge thank you to the cyclists who arranged the challenge in only two weeks.
